Broccoli + Bow Ties

Serves: 4


  • 8 cups broccoli florets
  • 3/4 lb whole wheat farfalle (bow tie) pasta
  • 4 tbs olive oil
  • 1 tsp garlic, minced
  • zest of 1 lemon
  • 1 tbs fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup toasted pine nuts
  • 1/4 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups cherry tomatoes, sliced (optional)
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper


  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
  2. Cook the broccoli in the boiling water for 3 minutes.
  3. Remove the broccoli with a slotted spoon or sieve and place in a large bowl.
  4. In the same water, cook the bow tie pasta for approximately 14 minutes (or until cooked al dente).
  5. Drain well and add to the broccoli.
  6. Meanwhile, in a small pan, heat the oil and cook the garlic and lemon zest over medium-low heat for 1 minute.
  7. Off the heat, add 1 tsp salt, the pepper, and lemon juice and pour over the broccoli and pasta.
  8. Toss well, season to taste, and add in the pine nuts, tomatoes (if using),  and cheese.
